Valhalla Brewery

Auld Rock Ale

Auld Rock Ale

Auld Rock Ale. Dark full-bodied Scottish stile ale with a well balanced malt and hop nose, leading to a clean and smooth finish. 4.5% ABV.

White Wife Ale

White Wife Ale

White Wife Ale. Light golden clean ale, with a dry, refreshing, bitterness and a characteristically fruity after taste. It takes its name from the ghostly apparition of an old woman who appears in vehicles, usually driven by lone males, on a lonely stretch of road just three miles from the brewery. 4.5% ABV.

Sjolmet Stout

Sjolmet Stout

Sjolmet Stout. The very cream of stouts. 'Sjolmet' was a distinctive colour of Shetland cow with (like this ale) a strong, dark body and light-coloured head. The colour has died out in the rare bread of Shetland cattle, but has been recreated in this rare full-bodied ale. 5% ABV.

Simmer Dim Ale

Simmer Dim Ale

Simmer Dim Ale. This light ,golden, bitter ale takes its name from the Shetland dialect word for that hauntingly beautiful twilight time at midsummer when darkness never descends on these isles - the sun sets, only to rise again just minutes later. 4.5% ABV.

Old Scatness Ale

Old Scatness Ale

Old Scatness Ale. The brew of the ancients. Inspired by the Iron Age village of Old Scatness in Shetland, where archaeologists have discovered the possible existence of a brewery - as well as Pictish symbols - it is created with bere meal, close to the barley which was grown 5,000 years ago. 4% ABV.

Island Bere Ale 500ml bottle

Island Bere Ale 500ml bottle

Island Bere Ale. A speciality beer brewed from bere, a heritage barley that Vikings are thought to have introduced to Britain in the 8th century. Bere was once widely grown in Orkney and Shetland and is unique amongst UK barley as it is still milled into a flour used for baking. In the past, it was also used to make beer and whisky and, even today a tradition of making home brew from bere still survives in some Orkney farmhouses. To help preserve this unique barley, Valhalla Brewery and the Agronomy Institute of Orkney College have collaborated to develop this smoky flavoured ale bearing all the characteristics of the distinctive grain. 4.2% ABV.
